First Nations leaders in Manitoba are accusing the CBC of providing a forum for the expression of hatred on its website. The organization has been monitoring the websites of some of the major news outlets in the province for the past year and said it had found dozens of reader comments posted about news stories on the CBC that referred to aboriginal pe… Continue

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! America caught red handed torturing civilians! What an outrage! What a lie! Are you in denial? Suppose you woke up one morning and discovered that your parents were serial killers? Would you be in a state of denial? Christopher B. Martin Native American Recognition Days offers look at culture

Shanna Hogan, Tribune
Hopi musician Casper Lomayesva calls his music edu-tainment.

“Most non-natives aren’t familiar with Native American culture,” he says. “We communicate our culture through our music. We educate and entertain at the same time.”

Based in the East Valley for the past 15 years, Lomayesva’s band, Casper and the Mighty 602, is an eclectic mix of traditional native music combined with reggae.

Christopher B. Martin Good Enough to Eat: Cooking up native traditions - Seattle Post-Intelligencer

By CHRIS SMITH
SPECIAL TO THE P-I

In his best-selling book, "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals," author Michael Pollan argues that America doesn't have a strong culinary tradition. We tend to make our food choices more on the bases of weight consciousness, perceived health benefits and convenience than on a historical sense of what's good to eat. Ironically, many of us are overweight, unhealthy and ultimately inconvenienc

Christopher B. Martin Native cooking - Indian Country

Fall and this great harvest time make me proud to be Native American. We know what our traditions are and we understand our identity as caretakers of Mother Earth, and how the things we value the most are things money can't buy. One is the mutual common thread between our nations: we are courteous and respect one another. Integrity is alive and strong in Indian country and we can stand tall with dignity and face down any way of life that threatens this solid moral strength.

Christopher B. Martin Reaction to vigil

I held a vigil from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in front of the Federal Courthouse in downtown Richmond, Virginia to publicize Potlatch and the Native American Rights Fund (www.narf.org ).

Responses included a thumbs-up from a driver. A middle-aged woman in a business suit said, "You'll never get that from here. This system sucks." A couple of rednecks country people pulled up in a truck beside me and wanted me to explain my sign, "Justice
