BERKELEY, Calif. (AP,October 8, 2007) - Native American groups are asking UC Berkeley in California to return thousands of museum artifacts to tribes from California to Alaska.
University staff members and tribal representatives joined a protest calling for tribes to be given a say in the process at the Hearst Museum that decides which items in its collection must be returned.
A new reorganization of the museum stripped tribal representatives of their say and put the decision making in the hands of museum staff.
